Bulgaria's Denkova, Staviski on the Ice for Another Year
Sports: 23 February 2006, Thursday.

Bulgaria's best skating pair Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski will remain on the ice for at least one other year.

I will ask them to hold on for another Olympic cycle and participate in the Vancouver games in 2010, Vessela Lecheva State Agency for Youths and Sports chief said upon her return from Turin.

Lecheva added that after Torino 2006 Bulgaria's Evegenia Radanova and the country's the biathletes will surely give up their sports careers and "I really hope that at least Albena and Maxim would stay."

The sports chief also commented that she suffered along with Denkova and Staviski during the figure skating final when they were robbed of the medal by the judges.

Bulgaria's Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski were left fifth at Torino Olympic Games despite their perfect performance that enchanted the audience.

Bulgaria's Ice-Skating Duo "Want to Fight For Gold"
Sports: 25 February 2006, Saturday.

Upon their return to Bulgaria, ice-skating duo Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski said that after the fifth place at the Olympics they were even more willing to win the gold from a world or a European championship.

"We were fed up with it all before the Olympics," Staviski said, "but now we want to fight for the gold medal we are missing."

Russia was the biggest political force in this sport, Staviski added for the media gathered at Sofia Airport, and stealing a medal from them was quite tough.

"It's hard to find motivation after what happened," Denkova said. "If it were the first time we've been disparaged, it would be fine, but this is becoming a habit." She added that the two would keep on fighting on the ice for their fans' sake, and that they would let the judges fight among themselves.

They both agreed that motivation was more than hard to find nowadays. "We are tired of fighting windmills," Staviski said. "It's in the nature of the sport we've chosen," Denkova added.

However all of their fans worldwide will be pleased to know that they feel in a great physical shape for the upcoming World Championship in Canada's Calgary in the end of March. The decision about the future of Bulgaria's top ice-skating duo will wait until after the race. What gives all the admirers hope, despite all, is that their trainers and the Bulgarian Skating Federation Head Evgeniya Karnolska all want them to stay on the ice.

This was Denkova and Staviski's second participation in Olympic games. During the Salt Lake City championship in 2002 they ranked seventh. In 2004 the two became European vice-champions.

Both of them said that Torino 2006 might be their last Olympic participation as well.

至少还会参加下个月的世锦赛……

我觉得讨论裁判没什么必要,但一想到他们说出“If it were the first time we've been disparaged, it would be fine, but this is becoming a habit.”
